As we reach another week's end it's time to recap the major events from the past seven days.
Apple kicked off its Worldwide developer congress with a lengthy online keynote. The newly unveiled iOS 15 as well as iPadOS, tvOS and watchOS brought few major changes. And the MacBook Pro and M1X chip announcements that were tipped didn't happen, despite later leaks showing the M1X tag in official Apple promo images.
OnePlus announced a more affordable version of its popular Nord 5G. The OnePlus Nord CE 5G starts at €299/INR 22,999 and improves on the battery and main camera of its more...
Two months after we reviewed the nubia Red Magic 6 gaming flagship, its more mainstream sibling, the Red Magic 6R arrives in our office. Thanks to the retail box, we know the R stands for Racing while the phone significantly scaled back on the gaming aesthetics and adds a few upgrades targeted at the larger masses - a better selfie camera, depth sensor for portrait shots, and a much lighter and more compact body.
The nubia Red Magic 6R is about 10% cheaper than the Red Magic 6, and before we set off to find if its a better deal let's do a quick unboxing and share some early...
The OnePlus Nord CE 5G is not a sequel but an offshoot of the original Nord. The letters stand for “Core Edition”, meaning that OnePlus distilled the mid-range Android experience, stripping out some features, adding back others, all to re-balance the value-for-money equation for a more positive outcome.
Design-wise the two Nords are very similar, though the CE is fractionally thinner and lighter. In fact, it’s the thinnest and lightest OnePlus phone since the 6T. Unfortunately, part of that comes from cuts to the bill of materials.
The screen – which is virtually the same size at 6.43”...
People are optimistic about having a third smartphone OS on the market – last week’s poll shows that 2 in 3 voters think that Huawei’s new HarmonyOS looks promising. The new version of the OS is already in the hands of over 10 million users and the AppGallery boasts 134,000 apps they can choose from.
The most common criticism we heard was that HarmonyOS (at least on smartphones and tablets) is a fork of Android. That seems to be the case, though Huawei claims to have a significantly different architecture on the inside.
We don’t see it as a deal-breaker either way. In fact, it may have...
The latest high-end TWS earbuds from Huawei are the FreeBuds 4 and they bring an iterative upgrade over 2019’s FreeBuds 3. Not to be confused with the recently launched FreeBuds 4i, the FreeBuds 4 feature open ear design with active noise cancellation which claims to filter out up to 25dB of surrounding noise. You also get the latest Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and longer lasting battery life in a slightly more compact form factor compared to last year’s model.
I got the chance to test out the new FreeBuds 4 for an extensive time, using them as my sole pair of earphones for work,...
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 that reportedly entered mass production last week was rumored to launch in July, but a new report claims the smartphone will launch on August 27 with the Galaxy Z Flip3.
Word comes from tipster Jon Prosser, who also claimed that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch Active4 before the two smartphones - on August 11. But Prosser says these are not the announcement dates. It is when Samsung will actually start shipping the devices to the customers.

The iPad mini looks old, compared to the newest iPad Air and iPad Pros, and Apple knows this. We've already heard countless times that a redesign is in the works for the company's smallest tablet, and today a new report reiterates exactly this, while also showing us what the next model will look like.
Note that these aren't leaked renders, they're constructed based on a blend of schematics, CAD files, and hands-on images, made from scratch in order to protect sources.
With that out of the way, here we go. As you can see, the next iPad mini gives off a lot of iPad Air vibes. In fact,...
The key to any smartphone platform is its ecosystem of apps. This is because without these apps, what good is your hardware if there is no software that can take advantage of it, right? This is the problem with BlackBerry and Microsoft’s Windows Phones back in the day, where there was nothing wrong with the hardware, it’s just that there was a lack of developer support compared to iOS and […]

Our written review of the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 (2021) went live a couple of days ago and in the meantime we finished our video review as well. You might want to watch this one even if you’re not in the marker for a new tablet because this is our first encounter with HarmonyOS 2.0.
Huawei is forging its own path here, though as it turns out that path is paved on top of Android 10. And while EMUI is front and center, some features like the desktop mode have gone missing.
Also, while Huawei provides alternatives to Google apps and services (e.g. Petal Search, Petal Maps, the...
The Android 12 beta is “by far our most downloaded/installed beta ever”, says Dave Burke, the VP of Engineering for Android. Unfortunately, he doesn’t give any concrete numbers so we can compare with previous betas.
Android 12 first entered the beta testing phase in May and it brought the first major redesign to the interface in a long time. This new iteration is called “Material You”. That surely helped spark interest in the new version.

Also, several makers had Beta 1 ready to go sooner than usual, so it wasn’t just Pixel owners downloading it....
China has been working on setting limits what kind of user data mobile apps can collect and several apps have already been hit.
According to Reuters, Sogou and Iflytek got their virtual keyboards removed from stores such as Huawei AppGallery and the App Store by Apple.
As of today, the “input method apps”, as they are called, cannot be downloaded. Iflytek Input allowed you to dictate text anywhere on your phone, but its data privacy agreement allowed the owners to collect personal information for “national security and national defense security” without the consent of...
Apple is expected to announce its iPhone 13 series in September but before it can release them on sale they must gain certifications from regulators around the world. That's a long tedious process that so it starts well before the announcement and often produces leaks of various magnitude.

Since the Redmi Note 10 series launched in India in early March Xiaomi has sold 2 million units worth over INR 30 billion. Those joined the 200+ million Redmi Note phones sold globally since the family was first introduced.
The Redmi Note series is a big deal around the world and it has proven particularly popular in India – if it was an independent brand, it would be #3 or #4 smartphone brand in the Indian market, according to Manu Kumar Jain, the Managing Director of Xiaomi India.
Over 2 million Redmi Note 10 units worth over ₹30 billion were sold in India

Eligible devices that migrate to HarmonyOS 2.0 will retain apps and data (the exception being apps that rely on Google Play Services). With backwards compatibility covered, Huawei is looking forward to the future when HarmonyOS will run its own apps instead ones designed for Android.
Huawei announced that over 4 million developers have signed on to build on the Harmony platform and that there are already 134,000 apps using HMS Core. HMS Core itself keeps evolving and yesterday’s event saw the launch of version 6.0 with extended support for Huawei’s cloud services.

Way back in the day when the iPhone was first launched, it felt almost revolutionary, but taking a look back at the old UI, it’s kind of cringey to see how outdated it looks by today’s standards. However, we imagine that there are probably some who might be fans of the old skeuomorphic design. One of those fans is teen developer Zane Kleinberg, who decided that he would try to recreate […]
The rules required to get a game streaming app approved by Apple seems rather troublesome, which is why we’re seeing many companies work around it by making their services streamable through Safari, and Microsoft is one of them. The company has been testing out its xCloud service on iOS for the past few months, and it looks like they’re close to launching it.In a post on its Xbox blog, Microsoft […]
One of the ways people track whether or not you’ve read an email that they’ve sent is by embedding a single near-invisible pixel in the email. What happens is that when the email is opened, the image loads and will notify the sender that you have read the email. While it can be useful, some might find it a bit invasive in terms of privacy. However, with iOS 15 and macOS […]
Similar to how Facebook reminds users to posts or photos they made on a certain day from a certain number of years ago, iOS has such a feature too in the form of Memories. It’s great if you want to reminisce about the good old days, but what if there are awkward photos like maybe a breakup from two years ago? While iOS is not a social network and your photos […]
Motorola launched its new Moto G Stylus 5G, which enters a highly competitive sub-$400 5G market with a pen-enabled phone. The new phone comes with a huge 6.8” FHD+ “Max Vision” display which promises to be very readable and comfortable to look at. The large size lends itself extremely well for the e-Pen support, which is not common in that market segment.Obviously, you should not expect the Pen features and precision […]
In the smartphone world right now, there pretty much only exists iOS and Android. Obviously either platform would love it if users from the competing platform jump ship and move over to theirs, and in an attempt to try and lure more of the competition, Apple has announced improvements they’ll be making to its Android “Move to iOS” app.The app has actually been around since 2015 where it acts like […]

If you’re trying to protect your online account, two-factor authentication (2FA) is the way to go. However, sometimes it can be troublesome as it means having to download and use a third-party authenticator app which can slow down the sign-in process, which in turn might dissuade people from using it.In an attempt to try and remove the barriers to entry for 2FA, Apple has announced that with iOS 15, they […]
One of the problems with digital assistants is that you usually need an internet connection to use them. This is because the digital assistants need to send your request to a remote server where your voice is processed in order to understand what you say. This is why sometimes it can take a while for things to happen. However, after years of making Siri online-only, Apple announced at WWDC 2021 that […]
The way iOS deals with notifications is basically whenever a notification comes in, you’ll be alerted to it unless you disable it. For some apps, such as Spark, it tries to be smarter about notifications where it will only notify you when you have emails it thinks are important to you as opposed to every single email. However, with iOS 15, Apple will try to take that concept and apply it […]
One of the features that Apple has developed to locate missing devices like iPhones is the “Find My” feature. However, the problem with “Find My” is that in its current state, it doesn’t work when devices are turned off, which is what most thieves would do if they stole a phone, or if you’ve misplaced a device and its battery dies. However, at WWDC 2021, Apple announced a change to the […]
One of the features that Safari on iPhone and iPad lacks compared to its computer version is extensions. Browser extensions can help expand on the functionality of a browser and make it better to use, but the good news is that at WWDC 2021, Apple announced that they will be bringing extension support to Safari for the iPhone and iPad.This means that in theory, users will be able to install […]
If there is one thing that Apple’s iOS does better than Android is that they can get users to adopt new updates a lot faster. Right now, iOS 14 is said to be at 90% adoption. This is compared to Android 11 which comes nowhere close. However, for whatever reason, Apple has decided to mess around with a good thing. As spotted by Droid-Life, one of the changes that Apple will […]
For the longest time ever, FaceTime was pretty much exclusive to all iOS and macOS devices. Want to FaceTime with a friend? They don’t have an iOS or macOS device? Too bad. Or at least that was the case until today. At WWDC 2021, Apple has announced that FaceTime will finally be coming to Windows and Android devices. Now before you get too excited, Apple isn’t creating a FaceTime app for […]
App storefronts like Apple’s App Store and Google Play are marketed as being more “secure” platforms to download apps from. This is because the companies claim to have systems in place to prevent malware and also a review process meant to weed out the unsavory apps, but it seems that it might not necessarily be the perfect system.According to a report from the Washington Post, it seems that out of […]
Apple’s iMessage is a pretty decent way for iOS and macOS users to message each other, send files, share media, and all that jazz, but is it necessarily the best? Maybe not, and with Google pushing its RCS messages, it seems that maybe iMessage could stand to receive an upgrade.According to the speculation, that is exactly what will be happening. Based on the invites and teasers Apple has put out […]
Usually when it comes to company phones, you would need to be in a relatively high position for the company to give you a phone. However, that isn’t the case with Walmart who recently announced that they will be distributing a whopping 740,000 free Samsung phones to its store workers.Walmart currently employs 1.6 million people in the US, so for them to distribute 740,000 phones to its workers means that […]
Last year when Apple refreshed the iPad Pro, one of the new hardware features they introduced was LiDAR. For those who are shopping on a slightly tighter budget, you might be interested to learn that all the iPhone 13 models could come with the tech. This is according to Wedbush analyst […]
From time to time, updates to our phones can sometimes cause more problems than it solves. A good example would be the recently released iOS 14.6 for iPhones in which according to a smattering of user reports, it seems that the update is causing excessive battery drain on the iPhones that have updated to it.In a post on the Apple Support Community, one user writes, “I have the same issue […]
When Apple launched the iPhone 11, many were surprised at the battery gains of the handset over its predecessor. However, with the launch of the iPhone 12, Apple for whatever reason decided to lower the battery size across the models, an odd move given the gains from the previous model. The good news is that with the iPhone 13, Apple will be bumping battery size again. This is according to a […]
As it stands, there are two standards when it comes to 5G – mmWave and sub-6GHz. If the rumors are true, Google could be working on a foldable phone of their own. The company actually introduced support for foldable devices in previous versions of Android, which was a strange move at that time as the company did not have foldable phones of their own. It was speculated back then that Google was laying down the foundations for its own foldable in the future. That future could be […]
Say your iPhone dropped into water like at a canal, what are you going to do? You could call it a day and chalk it up as a loss, or you could dive in and try to find it. However, the latter might be a bit dangerous, so a friend of app developer Frederik Riedel came up with a pretty clever idea – MagSafe. The iPhone 12 series comes with support […]
Despite having a well-publicized legal battle against each other, Apple and Samsung have a very fruitful business relationship with each other. It is said that the iPhone’s OLED displays (partly) come from Samsung, so it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that production for the displays of the iPhone 13 have already begun at Samsung’s factories. This comes from a report from Korean publication The Elec in which they […]
One of the ways Apple differentiates its iPhone models would be through the camera. For example, when they first brought image stabilization technology to the iPhone, the higher-end models got optical image stabilization, while the lower-end models got digital stabilization. However, with the iPhone 13, Apple could make them all a little bit more equal.According to a report from DigiTimes, they claim that all the iPhone 13 models will feature […]
Managing your open tabs on a desktop browser such as Chrome is pretty easy. The “lite” versions of Huawei’s flagships tend to launch ahead of the premium models, so we’re not surprised to see the Huawei P30 lite surface at a Polish online retailer. The page is pretty barren, it’s just a title “Huawei P30 lite 128GB Black” and the price, but that latter part is interesting enough on
