The COVID-19 pandemic pushed a lot of people into confinement in their own homes, leading to a surge in demand for home entertainment solutions. PC and laptop manufacturers recorded massive growth in sales and shipments in the past few months, and the tablet market surged as well.
According to a report by Canalys, the otherwise unimpressive tablet market grew 26% on a yearly basis and all of the top five manufacturers recorded an increase in shipments as during Q2 2020.

Following Monday’s unveiling of the Google Pixel 4a, Google released three video ads introducing the new midrange Pixel phone. One shows off the phone’s design and styling, the other highlights its features, and one ad that stars comedian and actor Fred Armisen highlights the Pixel’s camera capabilities.
The ads highlight Google’s services like Duo Video calls, Google’s photography prowess such as with the Astrophotography camera mode, and they touch on the phone’s supposedly long battery life. Google’s “Dough $aver” starts at $349 and undercuts the Apple iPhone SE (2020) by...
One of the newer hardware security features to come with Apple’s computing products is the inclusion of the Secure Enclave. Basically this is where all kinds of sensitive information is being stored and encrypted, like your passwords, credit card information, and biometric information like your fingerprints. The idea is that with this Secure Enclave, hackers who somehow manage to unlock your iPhone, they won’t be able to access these sensitive information. Last week, Apple confirmed that the launch of its highly-anticipated iPhone 12 would be delayed. The company did not state when exactly the phones will be launching, but it seems that it might miss its typical September launch. Now a new report from DigiTimes is claiming that the launch could actually be split into two stages. For those unfamiliar with the iPhone 12 rumors, the company is said to be planning […]
Google recently announced their latest mid-range smartphone with the Pixel 4a. Priced at $350, it is cheaper compared to other notable mid-range handsets that have launched in 2020, which includes the iPhone SE (2020) and the OnePlus Nord. So how did Google manage to get the phone so cheap?Speaking to Engadget, Brian Rakowski, VP of product management for the Pixel revealed some interesting tidbits of the process involved when creating […]
We have another round of CAD-based renders to look at today, and these are said to depict the upcoming Huawei Mate 40. However, we're thinking this may be the Mate 40 Pro as well, or even the Mate 40 Pro+, as three versions of the flagship phone have been rumored - and such a strategy would emulate what Huawei's done with the P40 family.
Anyway, let's assume this is the vanilla Mate 40. It has a gigantic circular rear camera bump, that's probably the biggest one we've ever seen. There are three cameras inside, with a fourth space seemingly empty, but that might be employing a LIDAR...
While mid-range phones don’t really stir up that much interest amongst tech enthusiasts, this year has been slightly different where we’re starting to see more mid-range phones being promoted somewhat aggressively by companies. This includes the iPhone SE (2020) from Apple and the OnePlus Nord. Now it looks like Google has tossed their hat into the ring with their latest mid-ranger that could prove to be a serious threat in the […]
In its recent blog post, Sony has answered one of frequent question about the upcoming PlayStation 5 and its controller support. And we have some good news and some bad ones.
The good news is that all PS4-certified peripherals such as racing wheels, arcade sticks and flight sticks will work with PS5 and PS4 games. The PS Move Controllers and PlayStation VR Aim Controller for PS VR games included. The PS4 controllers, on the other hand, will only be compatible with PS4 games played on the PS5 console.
Additionally, the Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets along with all other...
This isn't the first time we hear about Apple's supply chain issues and how it may affect the release of this year's iPhones. In fact, last week Apple itself confirmed those rumors saying that the handsets will hit the market later than usual, meaning sometime in October.
But this new report coming from Digitimes claims that the rollout of the new devices will be split into two stages. The first stage will deliver the two 6.1-inch iPhones while the second stage will bring the 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch members of the lineup.
Unfortunately, there's no info on when those waves will happen...
A Motorola Moto E7 Plus ran Geekbench earlier today. It’s an Android 10 phone with 4 GB of RAM, which puts it above the vanilla Moto E7. That one leaked on the Google Play Console with only 2 GB of RAM.
Moto E7 Plus: Geekbench 4.3 result
The vanilla model will be powered by the Snapdragon 632 chipset, that much we know from the Console. However, the E7 Plus motherboard is listed as “guam” and it’s not clear which Snapdragon that refers to. Presumably, a 6 or 7-series chip as it would be odd for the Plus model to get a lower end chip.
The Geekbench 4.3 score lines up with what we...
Samsung is considering acquiring a small stake in ARM, between 3% and 5%, reports an industry official. The plan is for the remaining shares to be bought by a consortium of fabless semi-conductor companies, adds the insider.
Samsung’s goal is to reduce the royalty payments for producing chipsets based on the ARM platform – the Cortex CPU and Mali GPU designs. The Korean giant uses these in its Exynos chipsets.
Even if a company skips Cortex in favor of its own CPU design (e.g. the M-series cores), it still needs to pay a royalty for the use of the ARM instruction set. That’s not a...
Alongside the Pixel 4a announcement, Google teased its Fall lineup of phones that will include two 5G phones. A Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 5G are on the way and we even got some pricing and availability details.
The 5G Pixel 4a will start at $499 - $150 higher than the just announced LTE version. It's unclear, however if that will give you more than just support for the next gen networks because no specs were revealed.
We also learned that the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will be available in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Australia....
After months of rumors and speculations, the Google Pixel 4a is finally official. As expected this year we are not getting an XL version, the affordable Pixel only coming in a single 5.81" size.
The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 730G chipset paired with 128GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM. There are no versions with extra storage nor a microSD card so that will have to do it.
The 5.81" OLED panel has 1080 x 2340px resolution with a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There's also a punch-hole for the 8MP front-facing camera in the upper-left corner of the screen. With a display...
The vivo S7 5G is now official with a Snapdragon 765G chipset, 64MP rear and 44MP front cameras. Those aren’t the only cams on the phone, in fact photography and video capture are its forte.
But let’s start with the 6.44” AMOLED display. It has a 1,080 x 2,400 px resolution (20:9) and it boasts HDR support along with 98.5% NTSC color coverage. The refresh rate is standard 60Hz, however. There’s a fingerprint reader built into the display.
Notched into the display are two cameras. The main shooter has a 44MP sensor and an autofocus lens with f/2.0 aperture. It’s capable of recording...
The Motorola RAZR 5G was first mentioned months ago, but it’s only now that we’re seeing tangible clues. After the first image of the new foldable leaked last week, now three new shots show the phone in the hand.
The iconic chin seems to have been tempered down and the fingerprint reader has moved. Where to? Even Samsung’s Z Fold 2 and Z Flip 5G are not expected to have in-display readers, so maybe Motorola moved it to the side of the phone not seen in the photos.

Carrier AT&T is preparing to launch the Note20 duo in the US and in its rush to get ready, it let one of the promo videos slip out. Here’s a 2-minute look at what the new stylus-packing flagships will be like.
The Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G will have a 6.9” Dynamic AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate. The vanilla Galaxy Note20 5G is getting a 6.7” Super AMOLED+ display and since the refresh rate was not mentioned, assume 60Hz. Both have single punch holes in the center.
In the US market, both phones will be based on the Snapdragon 865+ chipset, offering a 10%...
Huawei has promised no delays in launching the Mate 40 lineup, and we expect it to arrive in September or October. So far we’ve been hearing only rumors and getting minor leaks, but today a somewhat more major detail was revealed - it appears the Mate 40 Pro smartphone will have 6.6” display with curved edges, ultra-thin bezels and there are no holes whatsoever for a selfie camera.

The Mate 40 Pro is obviously ditching the notched design, just like the Mate 40, as previous rumors suggested.

TikTok found itself in hot water after President Trump expressed concerns about the app collecting data on American citizens and the threat that poses to national security. Owner ByteDance has so far been unsuccessful in working out a deal with the US government so an alternative solution is proposed – Microsoft could acquire TikTok.
The software giant officially confirmed that CEO Satya Nadella has been in talks with the President as well as ByteDance. Microsoft “is committed to acquiring TikTok subject to a complete security review and providing proper economic benefits to the United...
It seems like it's a bit too early for 2021 leaks but the kind of year we are having few things can surprise us. This one user in Android Police is one of those looking ahead and shared some interesting information regarding Sony's upcoming flagship series in 2021.
According to his sources, Sony plans to bring back the Compact and Premium variants of its flagship. This seems to be in line with the current trends as most of the companies are introducing at least three flagship models. He also adds that this year, the company will skip the small flagship form factor.
Normally a single...
The problem with some of the mobile payment solutions out there is that they require that retailers and vendors adopt new hardware or software. It might not necessarily be an issue for larger retailers, but for smaller companies, it could be an additional cost that they might want to pay. However, the good news for Apple Pay customers is that it seems that Apple has acquired a startup called Mobeewave. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is often talked about, but it hasn’t been seen until now – @evleaks published this render of the front of the device, which (unsurprisingly) appears quite similar the current S20 models, though it's not quite identical either.

Just like many other tech companies, Microsoft wanted in on the digital assistant market and launched Cortana several years ago. Suffice to say that unlike other digital assistants like Google Assistant or Alexa, Cortana has not gained the same level of traction or use, despite them having launched it on platforms like iOS and Android. This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Microsoft has since […]

Companies like Samsung rely on Android for their mobile devices. However, given that a lot of mobile hardware and software tend to be the same, companies try to set themselves apart by offering their own software services. For example, with Samsung, the company has their own alternative to the Google Play Store and Google Assistant. However, it seems that Google doesn’t want that. According to a report from Bloomberg, it seems […]
Fast charging tech has become commonplace in our smartphones today, take for example Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5.0 that was recently announced. However, as is the case with fast charging technology, it can have an impact on your battery’s overall health, and it seems that Oppo’s tech seems to degrade batteries faster than they claim.Oppo had recently unveiled their 125W wired and 65W wireless charging solution, which sounds great on paper, […]
Unlike apps like LINE, Skype, Messenger, WhatsApp relies on a phone number as a personal identifier. This means that you are pretty much limited to just having WhatsApp on one device (not counting the web/desktop version of the app). This can be a bit troublesome if you own multiple devices that you’d like to receive messages on.However, the good news is that things could change soon. According to a report […]
With the iPhone 11 sporting the A13 Bionic chipset, it is largely expected that with the iPhone 12, Apple could be introducing a new A14 chipset. There seems to be mounting evidence to suggest that Apple could be working on a smaller 5.4-inch iPhone 12. Qualcomm’s quick charge standard is one of the most popular charging standards in the world, and quick charge 5.0 brings a corner-stone improvement to Qualcomm’s platform. Its core value is to allow ultra-fast charging of phone batteries, with a speed that Ubergizmo estimates QC5.0 to be ~4.5X faster than any other commercially available solutions. For a battery of 4500 mAh* (what is mAh), Qualcomm estimates that the user could charge from 0% […]
There have been many who have theorized and come up with conspiracy theories that suggests that social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram are spying on us and listening to our conversations. How else would they have the ability to display ads for products and services we only just talked about? While companies have long denied these practices, it’s hard to dispel that notion after users have started to notice that […]
According to the rumors, Apple is set to launch four iPhone models this year. What’s interesting is that one of the models, the base model to be exact, will come in a smaller 5.4-inch body compared to the 6.1-inch and 6.8-inch models. Save for the iPhone SE, Apple has not released a flagship iPhone in such a small body for a while now.Of course those are rumors and not much […]
These days, 4G LTE has become the standard on the majority of smartphones out there. If you are, then you might want to take note of this.According to a leaked document obtained by Android Police, it seems that T-Mobile […]

A lot of our smartphones and tablets rely on glass covers to help protect the phone’s display components from being damaged. This means that these glass covers need to be really tough to withstand the daily rigors of usage and the occasional drop, and Corning thinks that they might have made the toughest version of Gorilla Glass to date.Dubbed Gorilla Glass Victus, Corning is boasting that this is the toughest […]
Given that all our faces are unique, the idea behind Face ID is that it makes it more secure than fingerprints because you can’t exactly “lift” a face like you would a fingerprint. However, Face ID is far from perfect and we have seen instances in the past where it can be beat, and it seems that Apple is trying to come up with new ways to create a more […]

Handwriting recognition can be a bit tricky as the system would need to be able to recognize various styles of handwriting.
