Redmi Airdots Wireless Buds Are The Same As The Xiaomi Airdots But At Half The Price

Xiaomi introduced its first truly wireless earbuds a few months ago and now the company is following them up with a new model that costs half as much - just CNY 99 ($15/€13). That's an affordable price for any Bluetooth headset, never mind a truly wireless one. Technically, these are the Redmi AirDots while the first model was under the Xiaomi brand. Still, it seems that you're getting the same features (other than the color - black). The buds connect over Bluetooth 5.0 and feature 7.2mm drivers. There's a built-in DSP wtihi "environment noise reduction". It's not clear if this is true...

Oppo F11 Pro Selfie Camera Can Be Used 100 Times A Day For 6 Years

Pop-up selfie cameras have found a home in the smartphone lineups of Oppo and vivo, but as they are relatively new, people may be worried about their durability. Oppo says it's a non-issue as the Oppo F11 Pro can be used 100 times each day for 6 years straight. That means that even the hands of obsessive selfie-takers, the F11 Pro will be retired of old age rather than mechanical failure of the front camera. And if you use the rear fingerprint reader instead of face unlock, the usable life is even longer. This info comes by way of the tweet below, which shows the Oppo F11 Pro performing...

One of the nifty features of Facebook Messenger is that it uses chat heads that are displayed on the main screen and overlays on top of other apps. Some might find it intrusive or annoying, but the fact that it is always present means that it is easy to get to, especially if you use Facebook Messenger often. Now it seems that Google could be borrowing the feature as well because […]

SwiftKey Adds Google As A Search Engine Option

While Microsoft might have failed on the mobile hardware front, the company has been making some inroads by introducing their own software and services to other platforms such as iOS and Android. They have also acquired other apps such as SwiftKey, giving them more in-roads to Apple and Google’s operating systems.Unsurprisingly apps such as SwiftKey relied on Bing for its built-in search engine, but it seems that Microsoft could have […]

Future Samsung Smartphones Could Drop The Hole-In Display

Samsung’s answer to the notch comes in the form of a hole-in display, where a small cutout has been made to accommodate the front-facing camera. We’re not sure if it is better or worse since it ultimately impacts the design of the phone and interrupts the display (although it does come with some fun wallpapers). However it seems that the company thinks of it as a temporary solution as they work […]

Samsung Galaxy Buds Vs Apple Airpods

Last month, when Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S10 smartphone, it also launched the Galaxy Buds, the company's latest truly wireless Bluetooth earbuds. We have been using them for a few weeks now and you can find our review here. The Galaxy Buds aren't the first set of truly wireless earbuds from Samsung, as the company has been making them as far back as 2016 with the original Samsung Gear IconX. However, even though Samsung was one of the first to market, it was really Apple that popularized this style of product. Not to mention, Apple's implementation was also much better in...

Samsung Galaxy S10e In For Review

Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy S10e - the value flagship in Samsung's S10 lineup and quite possibly the best compact phone period. We're on our way to deliver a detailed review of the Galaxy S10e early next week, but before that let's look at this little gem and share some early impressions. The first thing to stand out about the Samsung Galaxy S10e is its size. Unless you're using an iPhone 8 or a Pixel 3 the Galaxy S10e will strike you as minuscule the moment you get your hands on it. A big part of that comes from its impressively light 150g weight - whereas the iPhone XS is...

Weekly Poll Are Periscope Cameras The Future Of Telephoto On Smartphones

Multi-camera phones are the norm now, but the modules they use have a traditional design, one optimized for size. This limits the focal length - which, true to its name, is a measure of the distance from the lens to the sensor - meaning that telephoto cams rarely go above 2x zoom (and we're yet to see one go above 3x). A new breed of telephoto cameras has emerged at this year's MWC (we've seen prototypes earlier, but no mass market products). Yes, we're talking about the periscope type cameras, which are called that because light is reflected 90°. This guides light along the width of...

Samsung Reportedly Supplying OLED Displays For Huawei P30 Pro

Samsung Electronics may face intense competition from the likes of Apple and Huawei but several of the conglomerate’s affiliates conduct business with these companies as well. Samsung Display supplied OLED panels to Apple for the iPhone X and it’s now claimed that the company has inked a similar deal with Huawei. It’s apparently supplying OLED panels for the Huawei P30 Pro, the Chinese telecommunication giant’s next flagship smartphone. Samsung has […]

Tel Aviv Testing Crosswalk Lights To Warn ‘Smartphone Zombies’

Many people these days bury their faces in their smartphones as they go about their daily commute. That’s why there’s no shortage of videos online of people bumping into things and falling down stairs because they were too distracted by their smartphones to see where they were going. To prevent such “smartphone zombies” from stepping into the road with oncoming traffic, Israel’s business capital Tel Aviv is now testing crosswalk […]

Week 11 In Review All About The Huawei P30 And P30 Pro

This week we saw a big jump in Huawei P30-related stories, which is to be expected as we draw closer to their official launch on March 26. By far the biggest story was Huawei's ad campaign to tease the P30 Pro's 5x zoom camera, in which the company misleadingly used DSLR-taken photos. Now, Huawei didn't say these photos were taken with a P30 Pro but it was strongly implied. Anyway, no bad press eh? The P30 Pro made appearances on both AnTuTu and Geekbench, flexing its Kirin 980 muscle. We saw some camera samples actually captured with a Huawei P30 Pro and we got a good look at the...

Weekly Poll Results The Samsung Galaxy S10 Is The Bestloved Among Its Siblings

Last week's poll shows that the Galaxy S10+ is the one to have from Samsung Galaxy S10's LTE trio. It took in nearly 40% of the vote, leaving its two siblings in its rear view mirror. People appreciated the Dynamic AMOLED display and the addition of an ultra-wide angle camera, the battery life was rated highly too. Some weren't happy with the in-display fingerprint reader, but the major complaint against the S10 phones was that they didn't feel particularly innovative. The Galaxy S10, despite being fairly similar, only secured 22% of the vote - that's 2 percentage points lower than the...

Counterclockwise Periscope Cameras Are Old News Optical Zoom Dates Back To 2004

Periscope cameras are set to become "the next big thing" in smartphone photography, but they are not exactly new - they've been around for years actually. The history of optical zoom on mobile goes way back. Keep in mind that mobile phones have had cameras on them only since the year 2000. Not long after that in 2004 the Sharp 902 came around. Vodafone was just launching its 3G network in the UK and it claimed that this is the first phone with a 2MP camera in Europe. Even more interesting, it featured 2x optical zoom. Better yet, it did the zoom with a single camera instead of switching...

Samsung Rumored To Be Huaweis Oled Screen Supplier For The P30 Pro

And here's another one. A new report emerged claiming that Samsung is the sole supplier for OLED panels for this year's Huawei flagship, the P30 Pro. Assuming, the regular P30 will also be getting Samsung-made AMOLED. According to a Weibo post, which in turn claims to have inside information, Huawei has struck a deal with Samsung and has tasked the latter of making all of the OLED panels for the P30 flagships. There's more than one reason for Huawei to make the switch. For starters, Samsung is the biggest smartphone OLED supplier in the industry and has the manpower to pull off the...

WhatsApp, like many other companies, tests new features on the beta channel before rolling them out widely to its user base around the globe. And the latest features that this Facebook subsidiary is testing are in-app browser and reverse image search. As evident from its name, the in-app browser lets you open web pages from within WhatsApp. This way you don't have to leave WhatsApp to open links. Htc Makes A Profit In 2018

HTC posted its financial results for Q4 2018 and the annual 2018. Surprisingly, the company did pretty well considering its current situation. It made a small profit in the Q4, which carried over to the overall profit increase in 2018 as a whole. HTC reported $143 million gross profit after tax for the last quarter of last year and about $389 for the whole year. New Report ‘Confirms’ 2019 iPhones Will Sport A Triple Camera

With Android smartphones these days starting to feature triple cameras or more, it makes the iPhone’s dual cameras feel downright pedestrian.
